Cottonwood Seeds

This is the time of year when the Cottonwood seeds are drifting through the spring air.  I tried to grab a photo above of the fuzzy seeds floating in the blue sky at the Green River Swimming Area yesterday. Part of why I love them is they move slowly, twirl around; even stand still in the breeze. There is something so soothing about them, something so sweet about having them blow around you; as my friend said last week on a walk by the river, “It’s like we’re surrounded by angels!” I get the feeling of the drifting Will O’ the Whisps from the movie Brave and want to follow the whispy seeds through the fields!

Watching them float through the air reminded me of what my yoga teacher said this week when we were maybe pushing too far to get into a pose, “Move less and feel more.” It was sort of shocking to hear. So different from the message we usually get to move move move more and get things done. So I took her advice and sat in my car before I picked my child up at school instead of squeezing in 4 errands at a frenzied pace. (Truthfully, I had left my wallet in my husband’s car so I had no choice!) I let the Cottonwood seeds drift in one window and out the other as I sat in the car. Then I walked down to the river and listened to the birds singing with big cottonwoods releasing their seeds into the air all around me. At one point the mass of seeds looked like a swarm of relaxed swirling bees or a slow tornado.

The seed pods of the Cottonwood in different stages of closed opening and bursting!

I felt really calm and sort of sad, really. Which I think is why we often do the opposite of what I heard in yoga class; We move more and feel less! So I was glad to have my tool of tapping. I took only a few minutes and just tapped the points and felt what I was feeling when I got back to the car.

(Here are the points again if you’ve forgotten 🙂 crowladyhealing.com/the-tapping-points)

After a few rounds of tapping  I felt much better, more peaceful and clearer as I got ready to go and get busy again, picking up kids, feeding them, going to softball and then getting everyone to bed!

I hope you get to see some Cottonwood seeds if you live by a river in the central and eastern parts of the US. And I hope they are a gentle reminder to slow down and feel more as you watch them drift through the air. (And don’t forget to tap if slowing down sounds unappealing!)

xoxo
