Purple Loosestrife

Hello there,
Happy last week of August. I can’t believe September is almost here. In my family growing up the flowers in the picture below were always called “end of summer flowers” because they were in full bloom as summer was coming to a close. I never really liked them.

Later I realized that they start blooming in June! I didn’t want to glare at them all summer, so now I call them by their name, Purple Loosestrife. And, yes, they are an aggressive and invasive plant but they’re pretty and I just learned they are a”phytoremediator(s) that accumulate pollutants (such as PCBs) and break them down into inert compounds.”http://www.herbcraft.org/loosestrife.html
So, now I try to enjoy them and watch their bright purple flowers bloom in marshes and along roadsides everywhere this time of year. (And we still officially have 3 weeks until fall begins!)

xoxo
Katherine
