The Thaw and the Flow

Newsletter   February 2026  Volume 191

Hello there,

I hope you’re doing well, as well as you can in these very challenging times.

As you know, I have been reluctant to embrace the coming of spring; wanting to hold the quiet and the dark before spring and all its exuberance, noise and garden-pressures begin.

I have been really trying to give time to appreciating the darkness, doing some reflection, having some alone time and all of that combined with the relentless cold and snow is bringing me to anticipate spring’s arrival.

Also the pink sky in the morning on my way to work.

Hearing the birds! A redwing blackbird singing just after the snowstorm last week!

The mourning doves cooing on the wires above the driveway.

I guess now I’m ready for spring to begin.

Not that that means it will begin, but I can take part in the joy of spring instead of recoiling at the idea of it.

In difficult times like these, I want to remind you that moving the energy of grief and overwhelm is much better than letting that energy and those feelings sit and stagnate like frozen chunks of ice.

Some ideas for getting energy to move like a melting brook:

Talking and sharing with people you trust.

Yoga or any exercise where you breathe and move your body (See above  yesterday Kitty caught me in pose of a child and settled in.)

Time with pets; with as much physical contact as you can get.

Walking outside (if you can walk and talk with someone – that is really great).

Journaling is very therapeutic. Just sitting down with a pen and venting on paper. If you don’t want to keep it you can toss it in the fire.

Tapping is so great and whatever amount you can do really does make a difference. Don’t forget the world Tapping World Summit happening soon.

Do something creative; imagine what the world needs and make it!

Also, dancing and crying can be efficient.

Listening to music that helps the feelings move. So much of letting things go is to really letting yourself feel them, which is uncomfortable but so much better than avoiding them.

Music can really help. I’ve been listening to Henryk Gorecki Symphony No. 3 which is what I  listen to when everything else feels too cheerful.

I often use music to try and lift my mood; starting sad and easing into more joyful tunes, but sometimes it makes sense to just let yourself feel the sadness

Meditation – it can take a while to settle in and move past all the distraction and the stressful firing of the mind but once you descend, it can really feel like renewal.

Ritual is a really beautiful way to move energy and allows us to process the information and feelings we have within a community.

We want to keep moving these emotions and  move forward so that we can be present in our beautiful brief lives.

This Friday the 6th will be the March Full Moon Circle which is a great place to be in community and move through big feelings together.

Being together allows the release to be even more powerful.

And next week there is a lunar eclipse on Wednesday, which makes this lunation an even more potent and exciting time.

Something else I am doing to cope is lighting a white candle at night for the survivors and the victims of the Epstein nightmare.

So many children.

It is such a difficult topic and I understand wanting to avoid it.

I’ve found myself unable to sleep, so I have definitely limited my access, but I do feel the need to witness at least some of the suffering of those children and to do whatever I can to keep it in our consciousness.

And to do whatever we can to make sure those responsible are named and punished and the system that allowed such terrors to continue for so long is reformed irrevocably.

So I’ve been lighting a candle and sending all those people who were harmed my love and attention. I highly recommend the practice. It feels like a way to bring some tiny bit of light into so much darkness and gives me a place to put my grief, horror and love.

Even small rituals like lighting a candle connect us to the world around us in a way that makes us feel less alone and more alive as opposed to separate and shut down.

So, whatever you need to do, my dear, to take care of yourself – do it.

These are very difficult times and whatever you need to do to get through them and be kind to yourself is what you should do.

I read this quote yesterday from a James Clear newsletter and it struck me right in the heart.

Writer and scholar C.S. Lewis on what matters most shared by James Clear:

“To be happy at home is the end of all human endeavor. The sun looks down on nothing half so good as a household laughing together over a meal, or two friends talking over a pint of beer, or a person alone reading a book that interests them; and all economics, politics, laws, armies, and institutions, are only valuable in so far as they prolong and multiply such scenes.”

I would add to it may women be safe and protected and have complete choice over child bearing and be able to love, feed and hold their babies. and may children be safe, loved, fed and encouraged.

May we all have these moments in our lives and acknowledge their beauty and importance even with the challenges that surround us.

Much love and strength to you all.
