Newsletter April 2026 Volume 195
Hi there, hope you are well.
Wow.
It is such an ongoing practice and struggle to balance every day life with what is happening in the world.
Trying to get through your day and take care of the people around you while also grappling with your responsibility as a human, as an American as a neighbor is really rough right now.
Aarrrggg.
Because it is really really hard; I hope that you’re taking care of yourself.
It can feel so trivial and so futile to take care of yourself when things in the world are so fraught and full of feelings of danger, chaos and not knowing what is going to happen.
I get it.
But the trees and the flowers are blooming so get outside if you can – it is good medicine in these trying times.
On top of global political horrors, I’ve been sick with a cold.
I’m always so shocked at how uncomfortable a cold is. The congested head, the coughing, the running nose.
And the headache.
But I tested and it really is just a cold – but colds also just really suck.
And yes, you can take steps to make enduring them easier, but there is just some serious discomfort that one must tolerate because you have no choice.

One of my teachers said recently that to move forward in the life and create the life you want to create, you have to get used to tolerating discomfort and also get used to moving past rejection.
Fun.
I’ve been thinkig about that as I slog through this cold and keep plugging away at focusing enough to create each week’s moon class and figure out all the tech hurdles that come with putting it on an online platform.
In the process of trying to balance the pushing myself to be productive while also taking care of myself I came upon this quote by Xavier Dagba on instagram and it really struck me.

So the tenderness for yourself when things are challenging is where the self love gets tested and also where it grows.
Feeling the feelings of physical discomfort but also the disappointment, the frustration, fear and procrastination are part of that process.
Experiencing and enduring those emotions while continuing to show ourselves love is where we create room for even more love (resiliance, compassion and strength, too) for ourselves, not when things are going well and we think we are quite the marvel. (Although it’s good to be kind to ourselves then, too.)
So in these difficult times, use the discomfort we are all feeling (within reason because it is all too much) and let yourself and your heart break and with some patience and grace hopefully it will keep growing back stronger with a steady beat that connects us all to each other and the beautiful living world around us.
Here is a poem that resonated with our times by
“Morocco’s greatest living poet.
Abdellatif Laâbi’s poetry and literary activism has inspired a generation of writers and thinkers, and it resulted in his decade-long imprisonment.”
Life
by Abdellatif Laâbi
Translated by Andre Naffis- Sahely
Life
It’s enough I woke up
the sun to my right
the moon to my left
and that I walked
from my mother’s womb
to the threshold of this century
Life
It’s enough I tasted this fruit
I wrote about what I witnessed
I never kept quiet about the horrors
I did all I could
and everything I took, I gave over to love
Life
is nothing short of a miracle
that nobody sees
O wounded body
wounded soul
Admit you’ve been happy
Just between us
admit it

Much love and strength to you all.
xoxo
